Talks and Presentations 2011

This year we have a nice varied selection of presentations at the show.

The increase in Kayak fishing has resulted in lots of development in gear and how to out fit your kayak or sit on top. The talk with Andy Benham should be of interest to anyone looking to get a bit more involved with kayak fishing.

For those who seek adventure with their kayak Jeff Allen's "Into the wind" film will get you excited (or scared.)

And finally we have a talk from the Ashburton Division of the Dartmoor Rescue team (nearest unit to the Upper Dart).

They will be talking about what happens on a shout and also what happens afterwards. This talk should be attended by anyone who paddles on the Moor, course provides who use the river and general outdoor enthusiasts.

The unit will also have a stand on the day and are looking to raise funds.

They are a great asset to paddlers and users of the Moor, so please dig deep and donate on the day.

Andy Benham has been a sea angler as long as he can remember. He has been a journalist working for a number of magazines including Angling Times, Sea Angler. Trout and Salmon, Boat Angler and Improve your Course fishing.

In 2010 he wrote the very well received book "Discover Kayak Fishing".

Andy will be demonstrating how to outfit your fishing kayak with the main accessories, such as rod holders, fish finders and anchor systems.

Around Ireland 2011 Jeff Allen and Harry Whelan

In May of this year Jeff Allen and Harry Whelan broke the record for the 1000 mile circumnavigation of Ireland.

"Into the wind" is the exciting and insightful film of the journey. Jeff will be presenting highlights of this film at the show. This will be a great presentation for all paddlers, sea kayakers, expedition boaters and anyone who wants a bit of inspiration. Although after watching this video trailer you may think again!

Into the wind

Dartmoor Rescue

"Extraction of casualty's."

2.15pm at the Exeter Canoe Club

Dartmoor Rescue have a few divisions on the the moor. The Ashburton Search and Rescue team will be at the show to talk about what happens during an incident on the moor. Specifically what happens on the river. They have been involved in a few incidents now and this talk will deal with the difficulty's of getting casualties out of a very remote location.

This will definitely be a great talk for all white water paddlers.

"Volunteer Awards for the SW Region"

We are very happy to announce the South West Volunteer awards are being held at this years show. This is the first ever regional volunteer recognition award. All regional winners will be nominated for the Canoe England VIP awards which will be celebrated later on this year. Come see those people who are giving so much back to the sport.
